Wwise for Apple Silicon & macOS Big Sur FAQ |
1- Apple is recommending that I upgrade to Big Sur. Will Wwise continue working after this upgrade?
Based on our preliminary testing, Wwise 2019.2.7* and up, as well as the Wwise Launcher, should continue working after an upgrade to macOS Big Sur.
*Please note, older versions of Wwise might not work on Big Sur.
2- I bought a new Apple computer running on an M1 chip (Apple Silicon). Will I be able to continue working in Wwise?
Running the Wwise Launcher and Wwise Authoring tool on an M1-based computer is currently not supported. Rest assured we are working on it!
3- I want to publish my game on Apple Silicon. Does Wwise support it?
The Wwise Sound Engine, alongside the Game Engine Integrations, are already running on Apple Silicon: these are available with Wwise 2019.2.8 (released on December 11).
4- Is Rosetta emulation supported by the Wwise Sound Engine?
Yes. Most games using the Wwise Sound Engine should have the same sound quality whether they are run over a Mac on the x64 architecture, or the new M1 processor emulating the x64 architecture.
